We have a fantastic opportunity for somebody with some prior office or administration experience to join our client as a Trainee Purchasing Assistant, based out of their Bury St Edmunds headquarters on a full-time and permanent basis.

 

Our client, an well-established international supply chain solutions firm who are in a period of growth and expansion due to continued success. Employing just over 40 people in the UK, our client have a modern, buzzing, open-plan office and within that, the small 3-person Procurement team is based. This is a new recruit in the company that has arisen due to expansion of the team.

 

This role would suit a very confident, professional and intelligent individual who considers themselves to have strong commercial awareness. No relevant experience is required, just some prior experience in a commercial/office setting, but a good standard of education, with strong organisational abilities and excellent attention to detail skills are a must!

 

This is a growing role in which the successful candidate will be taught about their role as they go, so a willingness to be trained on the job, ask questions and show initiative is important. Working as part of a small, busy Procurement team, you will learn about procurement in both the UK and overseas, and will develop a strong understanding of what makes a strong supply chain. There is a progression plan in place for the successful candidate and my client envisage this person eventually being responsible for UK Procurement for the firm.

 

Initial duties and responsibilities within this evolving position will involve:

  • Assisting with implementing new process and procedures within the Procurement team
  • Contacting suppliers via email and phone to check on progress of orders and to discuss any issues/delays etc.
  • Liaising with the sales team to update them on the progress of orders so they can inform their customers of any delays etc.
  • Deal with any supplier or inter-company enquiries relating to ordered products or lead times, communicating with the Manager to come up with solutions and answers and communicating these effectively
  • Be an accessible/approachable point of contact for sales, warehousing and other managers supply them with the information needed; be a forthcoming and communicative team player
  • Deal with administration and general assistance in the department, doing so in a professional, thorough and reliable manner
  • Strive to gain a better understanding of supply chain and procurement through listening, observing and always asking questions!

No procurement or supply  chain experience is required, but some exposure (a year or  2) within a commercial office environment would be ideal. Other requirements are as follows:

  • Educated to at least GCSE level, with a good standard of results, particularly in English and Maths. Any further education within business administration, business management etc. would be advantageous but is not at all essential
  • High standard of spelling and grammar; clear in your communication
  • An enthusiasm to learn and grow into a more senior position in the firm in time; a desire to advance your personal professional development
  • Excellent IT competencies; unafraid of learning new systems and eager to learn
  • The ability make intelligent and well-considered decisions, remain professional and always be on-the-ball!
  • Fastidious attention to detail, even when working under pressure and within tight timeframes
  • Highly developed business acumen and negotiation/influencing skills
  • Strong communication skills; be articulate, confident, professional and sometimes assertive
  • Results-driven and tenacious, even when presented with new challenges and set backs
