Trainee Installer Step on Safety are currently recruiting for a Trainee GRP Installer, based at Brantham near Manningtree. Step on Safety are taking the market by storm with a selection of specialist anti slip flooring and GRP products that have proven, technical advantage over traditional materials.

As a Trainee GRP Installer, you will be responsible for working as part of an installation team, operating machinery to cut, fabricate, and install GRP safety flooring products to supply a variety of customers; you will be involved in manual handling and quality inspection of product.  Your ability to contribute to teamwork and assist the supervisor in developing the team, with integrity, accountability and enthusiasm is key. This position reports to the Workshop/Site Supervisor.

Reporting to the Workshop/Site Supervisor, duties and responsibilities include:

  • Understanding of CAD drawings as necessary
  • Building products; mitre joints; I-Beams; using  jigs; choosing correct fixing type
  • Assist in loading and unloading carriers with consignments as required
  • Carry out project installation work
  • Keep up to date with British Standards regulations governing installation work
  • Carry out visual inspection of machinery for safe operation before commencing any machining procedure, damages to be reported immediately to the Supervisor
  • Good levels of housekeeping to be maintained at all times
  • Follow Quality Management System (QMS) at all times
  • Ensure non-conformities are reported promptly
  • Ensure all appropriate PPE is worn as necessary
  • To work steadily and accurately under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Some manual handling required
  • Some repetitive duties

Training included:

  • First months training based in main workshop at company site in Brantham
  • Opportunity to work towards Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Glass Reinforced Plastics Occupations, on successful completion of probation period
  • To gain GRP product knowledge

Skills and attributes required:

  • One year factory and/or on-site experience
  • One year relevant skilled experience
  • Good standard of education
  • Experience of working in a manufacturing environment
  • First Aid certificate may be useful
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Flexible, dependable, reliable, team player
  • Work well under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Presentable and courteous
  • Job requires manual handling

A competitive salary depending on experience is on offer.   Hours are Monday to Friday 8.00am-4.30pm, (some extra hours may be required).   Paid train travel when working off main site.


Head office is in Brantham on the Essex / Suffolk border and travel is required to project sites throughout the UK.
