We are partnered with a growing and very well-regarded business within their industry. This is a fantastic opportunity to join them on a full time, permanent basis as a Technical Systems Engineer.

Our clients are based in central Reading, this position will will involve supporting their clients in the Thames Valley area.

This position will play a key role in the support of a variety of innovative, accreditable, cost efficient and profitable solutions which comply with HMG's security classification system. These solutions are the foundation for the Company's secure managed ICT services to MoD and other public sector customers.

The following will be included in this position:

Field Support:

  • Manage site surveys and pre-installation discoveries prior to the installation of new managed services.
  • Support pre-sales technical demonstrations as required.
  • Responsible for technical early life support requirements on all new managed services
  • Produce all support and pre-installation documentation where appropriate

Systems Maintenance

  • Manage those Reference Facilities that support Systems Maintenance.
  • Respond to escalated incidents and problems and change requests to ensure the timely update of the company's Service Management ticketing system.
  • Liaise with SDA and other members of the Build and Support Team to address in-depth issues.
  • Carry out initial inspections on returned end-user equipment and also on new or replacement end-user equipment prior to dispatch.

Service Management

  • Manage the company's response to escalated incidents and investigate remedial action and any preventative maintenance requirements regarding future occurrences.
  • Effective Problem Management and support of Continual Service Improvement Planning (CSIP) development and delivery. The production of Root Cause Analysis reporting.
  • Working with associated service delivery partners and the Technical Design & Delivery team
  • The collation and delivery of Service Management reporting as detailed in the contracted service management plans

System Installation:

  • Build, install and configure managed ICT services in line with the company's product set and customer requirements.
  • Manage the technical day to day relationship with internal customer service teams and 3PrdP party supplier interfaces

Systems Maintenance:

  • Act as the System Design Authority and respond where appropriate to escalated incidents and problems and change requests to ensure the timely update of the company's Service Management ticketing system

We are seeking a good technical knowledge of most of the following:

Hardware

  • Networking (Switching, Routing etc), Security (Firewalls, IDS etc) and Storage (iSCSI, Fibre Channel etc)

Server

  • OS (Windows Server 2K8R2 & 2K12, CentOS & Linux in general), Applications & Services (Active Directory, Messaging & Collaborative Software)

Software

  • Backup/Restore Software, Systems Management Tools (AD, WSUS etc databases, Antivirus

Virtualisation

  • Desktop, Server and VDI

Security

  • Mobile Device Management and Virtual Private Networks, System audit and analysis

Product

  • Windows 2K8 and/or 2K12 Server
  • Exchange Server
  • SQL Server
  • VMware Cloud Services (incl. VDI)
  • Mobile Device Management (preferably Airwatch)
  • Networking (CCNA/CCNP)
  • Backup and/or Storage
  • Enterprise Antivirus (preferably McAfee)
  • Multi-Factor Authentication (preferably RSA SecurID)
  • Cyber Security
  • Unix Server Administrator

We are seeking the following skills/attributes for this position:

  • Ability to establish and develop a new role as part of a small team within a rapidly evolving organisation.
  • Ability to work autonomously under your own initiative.
  • Proven track record in delivering technology projects.
  • A commitment to continually developing technical skills.
  • A good understanding of current HMG security classifications.
  • Initiative and pro-activity, matched by an ability to be a strong member of a team.
  • Experience of managed service environments, with an awareness of ITIL best practice.
  • Experience of build, test and implementation of systems, along with 3PrdP line operational support.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to influence and negotiate both internally and externally.
  • Willingness to work flexibly in response to changing organisational requirements.

Due to the nature of our client's business, you must be able to obtain appropriate security clearance (this can be discussed at interview)
