Senior Enforcement Officer

Ipswich is one of the fastest growing regional centres in England and thousands of homes and jobs are planned for the area together with redevelopment of the town centre, including the continued regeneration of the historic waterfront.
Following the retirement of the previous post holder, the council has a vacancy for a Senior Enforcement Officer to work within its busy Development Management Team.
Based at Grafton House in Ipswich, you will need to pro-actively investigate planning enforcement cases across a broad range of town planning matters, have a working understanding of relevant legislation and have excellent interpersonal skills in order to represent the planning department at all levels when going about your duties.
You will be the lead officer for the monitoring and enforcement of breaches of planning control. You will investigate legal background to planning breaches, research planning histories, carry out on-site assessments, interpret council and government policies and guidelines and negotiate and seek resolutions with developers / owners through personal visits or correspondence.
You will need to be qualified to HND level or NVQ Level 5 in a related field (or a similar qualification at this level) or have a minimum of three years practical experience in a planning enforcement or related enforcement role. You will also have proven report writing skills, the ability to interpret legal documentation, be able to demonstrate an appreciation of planning system and built environment as well as effective analysing of problems.
A sound knowledge of Microsoft Office as well as the ability to learn new packages is essential.
