£22,417 to £25,941 per annum, pro rata

 

The Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts is one of the most prominent university art galleries in Britain, with a national and international reputation as one of the UKs principal centres for the presentation and study of art. The collections include works dating from prehistory to the late twentieth century and a significant number of works by masters of of European modern art such as Pablo Picasso, Edgar Degas, Francis Bacon, Alberto Giacometti, Henry Moore and Amedeo Modigliani. There are major holdings of art from Oceania, Africa, the Americas, Asia, as well as antiquities from the ancient Mediterranean cultures of Egypt, Greece, Rome and Medieval Europe. There are significant collections of 20th Century art focusing on Studio Ceramics, abstract and Constructivist Art and Art Nouveau.

 

The Sainsbury Centre requires an experienced and dedicated museum professional to join its team of Curators, working mainly on the development and delivery of the Sainsbury Centres temporary exhibitions programme and collections displays. Working with colleagues in Curatorial, Collections Management, Learning and Communication, you will be expected to work collaboratively in the delivery of an ambitious programme of exhibitions, displays, related events and activities. In addition you will contribute to the development of the collection through its acquisition programme.

 

Educated to degree level or equivalent qualification or experience, you  will have a specialism relating to our collections and also have a keen interest in the ancient, modern and international perspective of the Sainsbury Centre. You will have recent experience of working in a museum or art gallery and be able to fulfil all essential elements of the person specification, including the requirement to have exceptional written and verbal communication skills.   

 

This post is available from 4 November 2019 on a part-time (0.6FTE), fixed-term basis for 1 year.
