Principal Container Platform Engineer - Kubernetes, Openshift, AWS

Why is our Container Platform team the next step for you?

In this role, you'll head up a small team of Container Platform Engineers, who are managing, maturing and operating Worldpay's container platform through delivery of Worldpay's PaaS/ CaaS capability.

Within our Container Platform Team, we are building, releasing and operating technology products and services to support an elastically scalable and fault tolerant new platform running Kubernetes with OpenShift on AWS. In addition, we are exploring the evolution of containerised runtimes and looking to take advantage of emerging technology around serverless and public-cloud managed Kubernetes.

How will you add value on a day-to-day basis?

You'll provide leadership in our adoption of containerised workloads; to drive attainment of unrivalled qualities of service, scale, security, agility, value and the management of critical containerised runtimes across our lifecycle. You'll help mature and evolve Worldpay's strategy around container adoption, consult teams on container capability for global service qualities and implementation options, and build and maintain documented production and pre-production environments in Amazon Cloud (AWS).

You'll manage and mentor a team of engineers and actively contribute to the engineering Chapter (practise area). You'll build and maintain an automated deployment platform to support continuous delivery processes, as well as own and maintain the process for the deployment of code for stable, scalable and secure releases. You'll also build and maintain monitoring for the production environments, ensuring alerting mechanisms are deployed and appropriately assigned to the support model (currently Sysdig, Splunk, Cloudwatch).

What will make you the ideal candidate?

To succeed in this position, you'll require strong technical competence in the container/PaaS space and experience in 24/7 operations, plus you'll have managed (or better, automated) production deployments and really understand what it means to "ship". That said, technology is a means and not an end for you; the people and systems you affect and interact with matter the most. You care about the tools used to get the job done, but they don't define you. You love to solve new problems and thrive in a rapidly innovating and changing space.

You'll have team lead experience and experience working with container orchestration technologies (eg: Openshift, Kubernetes, etc.), experience with containers and immutable infrastructure (eg: Docker, Project Atomic) and experience working in Amazon Web Services (AWS) and managing the infrastructure for cloud operations. Automated deployment experience (including Jenkins, Sonar, Nexus, Maven, Puppet, Ansible) is great, as well as automated monitoring and alerting experience (including App Dynamics, Splunk, AWS Cloudwatch, Nagios and Oracle EM). You'll also have experience working in an Agile and DevOps environment.
