Palliative Care Education Coordinator
3-year Fixed Term Contract
Salary: £37,455 - £40,992 per annum
Norwich, Norfolk, East Anglia.

Closing date:  Sunday 24th March 2019.
Interview date : Friday 5th April 2019.

Big C cancer charity has partnered with Priscilla Bacon Support Group to create this brand-new role to review palliative care education provisions across Norfolk and Waveney.

Working across the medical community, this senior practitioner will seek to ensure the sustainability of current provisions, plan new provisions as needed, roll out the 10 core competencies for palliative and end of life care as set by Norfolk and Waveney Palliative End of Life Education Framework and act as a palliative care educational liaison between stakeholders such as Health Education England and Palliative Care Collaborative.

Big C core values are respect, empathy, support, trust and honesty.  Together we commit to live these values through our work.

If you are a Registered Nurse with post graduate qualifications in oncology and palliative care and would like to learn more about this exciting role, we would love to hear from you.

Big Cs founders had one vision, and that was to deliver outstanding cancer care for the people of Norfolk and Waveney.

Having been through cancer themselves and enduring lengthy journeys to receive treatment out of county, charity founders David Moar and Clive Bamford, wanted to ensure that in the future the people living in Norfolk and Waveney had access to the best treatment and support close to home.

40 years on and the charity not only provides wide-reaching and innovative care services locally but funds vital medical equipment for the countys hospitals and invests in world-class cancer research based at Norwich Research Park.

The charity has established three Big C Centres located at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH), Kings Lynn and Great Yarmouth with a hub at the Louise Hamilton Centre in Gorleston. These centres provide an oasis of specialist emotional and practical support for anyone affected by cancer away from a clinical environment.

Since its first small, but important fundraising project providing chemotherapy equipment at the NNUH, Big C has continued to grow and found specialist life-saving equipment and internationally significant research projects that work towards finding better ways to treat, diagnose and prevent cancer. These projects can also lead to clinical trials, meaning local people are the first to access the latest treatments.

Big C recently announced a £250,000 investment into the new planned Priscilla Bacon Hospice. The investment will help to expand on much-needed palliative care provision in the county and includes the creation and funding of the new Palliative Care Education Coordinator.

The role will enable a senior practitioner to work collaboratively with Norfolk Community and Health Care (NCHC) and Priscilla Bacon Lodge to review palliative care education provisions across Norfolk and Waveney.

Dr Chris Bushby, Chief Executive at Big C says: With the rising demands on end of life care within the county from a growing population with increasingly complex care needs, the requirement for improved palliative care provision within the area is clear. Cancer is the primary diagnosis in 80% of referrals to hospice care and Big C felt it was important to invest into the new hospice building and we are proud to do so. Through our involvement in palliative care in the county, we also identified a gap for a new palliative care education officer role, which is in line with Big Cs cancer education strategy and is particularly important to further drive the very best standards in care across the county.
