Nursery Nurse

Do you want to help build and be a part of a new and exciting service?
One in five women experience post or ante natal depression, anxiety or in some cases psychosis during pregnancy or in the first year after childbirth.
We will provide specialist care for women and their babies with moderate to serious mental illness such as bipolar disorder or severe depression whilst they are pregnant or in the first 12 months after birth. The long term benefits of this kind of specialist care offers early help and support to parents and babies to bond.
Our families are at the heart of everything we do and they truly influence our practice. The role of the specialist perinatal team is to look at both the needs of the mother and baby together. With this in mind, we have decided instead of our usual style advert, we want to use a true story about Anna and Spencer's experience.

Anna and Spencers story is typical of the kind of care that you, the Nursery Nurse, will be giving:
"The birth of Anna and Spencers baby had been traumatic and Anna had not been able to sleep properly since she was breast feeding her baby. A week after the birth Anna started to worry that she was not a good enough mother and her baby would be better off without her.
She did not want to mention this to anyone because she was worried they would take her baby away. Her mood was depressed and she was over whelmed with feelings of guilt and thoughts of suicide.
Eventually Anna was able to explain her feelings to her health visitor who made a referral to the Community Perinatal team. Following an assessment by the team a care plan was made which included interventions from a Nurse, Psychiatrist, Psychologist and also the team Nursery Nurse.
The Nursery Nurse was able to visit Anna at home to help Anna and Spencer engage with the care of her baby and ways to improve the bonding between Anna and her baby. She offered practical advice around feeding and child development so that Anna was aware of how to interact with her baby and pick up on her babys responses. Slowly Annas mood improved and she was able to enjoy caring for her baby again"
