Materials and Transport Controller / Planner required for my client a global leader in the design and manufacture of bespoke systems and equipment for the steel and heavy engineering industry. 

Joining a well established team of people the purpose of the Materials and Transport Controller / Planner is to ensure the most cost effective and efficient approach is taken to the receipt of incoming raw materials and the outgoing distribution of the finished products.

The Key responsibilities of the Materials and Transport Controller / Planner: 
To aid with the production planning aspect of the manufacturing process through:

- Materials control – once a job is to be built the lead times are confirmed and as a result the purchase schedule can take effect. The management of the raw materials and or components from booking in to stock management are fundamental to this position.
- Transport – Ensuring that the most cost-effective means of transport is being utilised to manage the customers costs, while ensuring the most efficient transport arrangements are in place to ensure timely delivery of all products to agreed lead times.
- Purchasing projects – take part in continuous improvement projects that focus on existing ways of working and making them more effective where possible, one example is the Bar-coding project of incoming materials to manage and track items while on site. Another example would be evaluating specific purchasing categories with a view to reducing overall cost.
- Provide support and cover to the Materials Controller.

Experience and Skills of The Materials and Transport Controller / Planner: :

- Ideally some experience in similar roles such as Purchasing, Stores, Materials Control type of work.
- High level of self-sufficiency and self-motivation.
- Well organised.
- Ability to prioritise and multi task.
- Results orientated.
- Outgoing with good verbal communication skills
- Good attention to detail.
- Good written communication skills
- Good standard of IT skills

- Ability to cope under pressure
