Five Education are working with an alternative education provider in Bristol to support pupils who have been excluded from schools or those who find mainstream education challenging. The students have been referred to the school by the local authority or are currently in care, and have additional needs. The school focuses on education in the core subjects and then helping the pupils to obtain additional qualifications including vocational subjects such as carpentry and mechanics.


We are looking for a confident Teaching Assistant who is calm and not easily phased to work with a student in year 10 from September 2020. You will be working with a student who has Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH) and may display some challenging behaviour. You will need to be able to drive as he does need to attend lessons held outside of the class. Due to the specific needs of the pupil, we are looking for male candidates only at this point.


Essential Criteria:

  • A flexible and resourceful approach
  • At least six months of recent teaching assistant experience
  • Experience supporting children with SEND
  • Experience supporting children with challenging behaviour
  • You will be able to demonstrate positive reinforcement
  • Ideally, you will have experience using Team Teach or similar methods to aid with de-escalation
  • Have a right to work in the UK (A Valid Visa)
  • Two recent child based references and relevant DBS/ Police checks
  • Access to bicycle, car or near main bus routes.
  • Able to work 8.30-3.30, 4/5 days per week term time only


Due to the needs of the student, only male teaching assistants will be considered for this role. However, as a busy agency, we do have other roles working with young people who have similar needs.
