Legal Secretary Atkins Thomson is a forward-thinking law firm with a fun, hard-working ethos at its heart. We are looking to recruit a Legal Secretary to join the team based on the outskirts of Bury St Edmunds. This Legal Secretary will work on a full-time, permanent basis, and must be able to demonstrate previous experience in Law. In return we are offering a salary between £18,000 to £22,000 depending on experience.

The Legal Secretary will have excellent drafting, technical and time management skills, together with the ability to deliver a strongly client focussed service, giving timely and practical support.

You will efficiently undertake legal support, administration and clerical duties, to include:

  • Support fee earners on client matters including: file administration; drafting standard documentation and correspondence; liaising with clients/third parties; completing search forms and online applications with relevant agencies, including post completion matters
  • Data input, data extraction, photocopying, faxing, filing and word processing/typing duties as directed
  • Dealing with internal and external post and emails on a day to day basis
  • Answering / dealing with queries, both face to face and via the telephone, take messages accurately and pass them onto the relevant member of staff in an appropriate and timely manner
  • Supporting the team to maintain accurate, timely and legible records
  • Meeting and greeting clients and visitors as required
  • Maintaining filing systems in line with current procedures
  • Maintaining strict confidentiality always
  • Actively engage in all aspects of professional development

Skills and attributes required:

  • Strong academic background with a demonstrable experience in law
  • Experience working with document management systems
  • Competent user of all Microsoft Office programmes, e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Well organised with exceptional attention to detail
  • Forward thinking approach and ability to work on own initiative
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Enthusiastic and team minded
  • Able to cope under pressure

This is a full-time, permanent position with working hours Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. On offer to the ideal candidate is a competitive salary. In a relaxed, open plan layout set in a converted barn with its own parking and beautiful green parkland adjacent, the firm offers an exceptional atmosphere in which to work and be part of the team. The regional Suffolk office handles Property, Commercial, Family and Private Client matters, while the London office specialises in Media Law and Defamation.
