Laboratory Manager

Applications are invited for a new position of Laboratory Manager at Earlham Institute, a research organisation on the Norwich Research Park, UK, that explores living systems by applying computational science and biotechnology to answer ambitious biological questions and generate enabling resources.

The role:

The Laboratory Manager (LM) will provide support to all laboratory areas in the Earlham Institute building, including Science Division Labs, Genomics Pipelines, DNA Foundry and tenants of the Institute.

The LM will play a key role in ensuring that EI laboratory teams operate safely and efficiently, coordinating all aspects of laboratory support, including biological and health and safety, repairs and maintenance, space and infrastructure, stock control, quality assurance, and lab asset management across the Institute.

The LM will act as the first point of contact for NBI Partnership functions (Estates, Health and Safety, Quality Assurance, Purchasing and Computing) and work closely with the Business Support team (who manage the offices and general parts of the building), and external contacts such as contractors, suppliers, auditors, the Health and Safety Executive, the Environment Agency, suppliers and representatives.

The LMs work will support Earlhams strategic science programmes and the National Capabilities in Synthetic Biology and Genomics and Single Cell Analysis.

The ideal candidate:

The Laboratory manager should be educated to degree level in a scientific subject or have the equivalent level of experience.

They will have meticulous scientific technique and attention to detail and well as working knowledge of integrated laboratory management and the impact of Health and Safety legislation in the scientific workplace.

The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience in developing, implementing and managing Standard Operating Procedures in biological laboratories, as well as experience of laboratory management software, including stock inventory and Laboratory Management Information Systems (LIMS).

Additional information:

Salary on appointment will be within the range £39,150 to £47,850 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This is a full time post for a contract of 23 months.
