Great Yarmouth Charter Academy

Head of modern foreign languages

Salary: MPS/UPS + £4,398 TLR

Full time, permanent

Starting: September 2019

Great Yarmouth Charter Academy is an exceptional school, with rapidly rising results and a determination to do the very best for our pupils. We need an outstanding head of MFL to help lead that charge.

This is a career-defining opportunity. The next five years are set to be our most exciting yet: in 2018 our GCSE results nearly doubled, and that is just the beginning. The successful candidate will have masses of energy and a clear vision for where they want to take the MFL department as we continue our transformational journey.

A consummate performer in the classroom, keen to play a key role in developing whole school ethos and fully aligned with the Charter vision, the successful candidate will love their subject, love teaching children, and have sky high expectations for all. Youll have excellent subject knowledge and be personable and pragmatic, with a proven track record in MFL and an excellent French accent, and able to energise and motivate colleagues and pupils alike.

Working very closely with the headmaster Barry Smith, the new head of MFL will develop further the unique MFL methodology already in place at Charter. Our approach to MFL teaching is in sharp contrast to the orthodoxy. No games, no pictures, lots of expert didactic teaching.

Great Yarmouth Charter Academy prides itself on the excellent behaviour of its pupils and a school culture which exudes both warmth and positivity.

This is what staff have to say about life at Charter:

  • I cant imagine working anywhere else. I finish work on a Friday at Charter feeling thrilled that Im part of such an amazing community.
  • Charter is everything I could have hoped for in a teaching career. It is a pleasure to work in a school with such warm relationships.
  • Charter is a school like no other. What you find at Charter is kindness from everyone you meet, and a clear sense that we all work relentlessly to support each other.
  • It is a pleasure to work at Charter. Its a joy to teach knowing that every second counts.

This is what visitors say about Charter:

  • It is rare, and incredibly special, to set foot in a school where teachers are so proud of what they are achieving and pupils so pleased to be learning in a safe and joyful environment.
  • Corridors were calm and orderly. Behaviour in classrooms was impeccable amongst the best I have seen in any school, anywhere.
  • Hello sir/miss, how are you? abounds everywhere. The impression you get is of a school in which respect is the number one priority.
  • It is impossible not to be impressed by Charter, by the calmness, by the focus in lessons, by the happiness of the staff, but above all, by the incredible politeness of the pupils.

We would encourage interested parties to get in touch with the headmaster for an informal telephone conversation prior to application. We strongly advise you to come and visit Charter and see the school in action on a typical day - please email office@gyca.org.uk to make an appointment.
