Factory Manager - Smart Garden Offices design and manufacture a prestigious range of high quality buildings from the factory near Bury St Edmunds and install across the UK. We are currently recruiting for a full-time, permanent Factory Manager to lead our busy off-site manufacturing team.

As Factory Manager you will have accountability for the factory and production function; including Facilities Management, resource planning, process, output and quality.  You will inspire and motivate all team members by providing effective leadership and management, to ensure the highest standards are achieved and productivity is optimised, providing an excellent internal and external customer service experience which positively contributes to the end result in that our customers are delighted by our products and service.

You will be responsible for:

  • Full management of the production facility; ensuring all buildings, machinery and equipment are properly maintained
  • Optimising all resources (machinery, equipment, people and materials) to maximise efficiencies
  • Control and management of stock and stock levels to enable an effective JIT process
  • Managing the entire production process; enabling team leaders and supervisors to deliver to a high standard
  • Ensuring key performance indicators are in place and production targets are met
  • Evaluating processes and procedures, improve efficiency utilising advanced production management techniques
  • Constantly review technical resources to enable continuous improvement
  • Maintaining high level QA and engendering quality awareness at every level
  • Communicating with other areas of the business on a daily basis
  • Ensuring all reporting is completed accurately and on time
  • Ensuring compliance with all regulatory and statutory requirements, and company policies and procedures are adhered to
  • Working with the H&S Compliance Officer, to ensure health, safety and wellbeing of production teams, and compliance with H&S policies and procedures at all times.

People Management:

  • Lead by example
  • Effectively inspire, manage and motivate the team to ensure all work is completed to the highest standards, with minimal errors and wastage
  • Manage through the structure by ensuring the appraisal and development programme is effectively deployed; coaching supervisors/team leaders through appraisals, training, development with the goal of ensuring all team members perform at the highest level and achieve full potential
  • Responsible for the recruitment and oversee the training of staff; ensuring teams and individuals are competent and effective
  • To promote a fun working environment and ensure the teams feel valued

Qualifications, experience and skills required:

  • Educated to a minimum HNC/HND level in Engineering/Manufacturing in timber related processing, or equivalent by experience
  • Proven track record of success in deploying advanced production management techniques such as Six Sigma processes, including Kaizen and Kanban
  • Experience delivering high quality products
  • Extensive knowledge of production management techniques particularly within a woodwork environment
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Experience of change implementation and management
  • Experience of leadership and development of high performing teams
  • Commerciality and understanding of financial data and reporting
  • Knowledge of computer packages, ERP/MRP systems (Access preferable)
  • Inspirational, motivational as well as listening, negotiating and influencing skills
  • Organised, prioritised, methodical and rational
  • Communicate in a confident and approachable manner
  • Diplomatic, discrete and able to maintain confidentiality
  • High level of attention to detail with commitment to delivering a high-quality service

This is permanent position with an award winning, growing business is offered with a salary range of £30,000-£40,000 per annum plus PRP depending on experience.
