Events Manager Suffolk Chamber of Commerce is the largest independent business forum in the East of England.  We have an exciting opportunity for a talented and ambitious Events Manager to develop their thriving programme of business networking events and conferences, to be based in Ipswich but covering all of Suffolk.

As an Events Manager of a small and proactive team, you must have at least two years management or team leader experience, as well as at least two years experience in event management. This exciting new role will suit an outgoing, dynamic and forward-thinking event manager with a strong work ethic and a 'can do' attitude.

Local business knowledge is desirable, but what is more important is your enthusiasm and keenness to deliver successful, well organised events that are commercially viable and support our membership recruitment and retention programme.

Duties will include:

 

  • Developing, managing and implementing a successful and profitable business events programme
  • Management of two event coordinators including delivering appraisals and agreeing performance targets
  • Generating ideas for new and current business events, ensuring a range of profitable and attractive events take place across the county to support membership recruitment and retention and meet the needs of our members and stakeholders
  • Set strategic goals and long-term planning of events to deliver company growth, monitor performance and manage budgets
  • Develop and implement event marketing plans
  • Responsibility to secure sponsorship opportunities for events
  • Attendance and organisation of a range of events including: venue booking and catering, speaker booking/liaison, and on the day event management
  • Chair monthly event team meetings and pre and post event briefing sessions
  • Representing Suffolk Chamber at relevant meetings and events

Skills and Attributes:

  • The ideal candidate will have two years event management experience, including booking venues, speakers as well as managing a small team
  • A good understanding of the conference and events industry with good budget management
  • Highly organised, works well under pressure, self-motivated, punctual and good negotiating skills
  • The ability to think on your feet and problem solve under pressure
  • Good marketing skills, with an eye for detail
  • Friendly and approachable, passionate about good customer service and going the extra mile, who has innovative ideas and a willingness to get stuck in
  • Good understanding of health and safety requirements relating to event management
  • Positive and flexible approach to working, including some out of hours work
  • A full driving licence and access to transport

This is a full-time permanent role with office hours of Monday to Friday, although some out of hours work will be required. Flexible working opportunities are available including occasional home working opportunities. In return we are offering a competitive salary from £26,000 up to £32,000 (depending on experience), company pension and healthcare package. With 23 days holiday (increase after three years employment to a maximum of 25 days) plus bank holidays.
