Clinical Coder

Killick Street Health Centre - Islington

Starting salary £11.00 per hour 20-25 hours a week

We have an exciting opportunity within our practice to develop a pioneering Super Administrator Programme. A developing role within healthcare; this involves being trained to and the ongoing implementation of Clinical Coding.

The main aim of this role is to train candidates to become successful and autonomous Clinical Coders, who can process practice mail and documents, insert into templates and apply appropriate clinical codes.
With sufficient training and experience the candidate is also expected to be able to filter incoming mail with the aim of reducing unnecessary document traffic to clinicians.
There will be an additional role working alongside the Practice Manager on recall of patients with chronic diseases or case finding.
There will be the opportunity to develop the role further across wider work streams within the practice.

What you will do:

  • Work 4 to 5 days a week working  4 to 5 hours per day.

  • Receive extensive training to become proficient using both EMISWEB and DOCMAN systems, along with NHS Clinical Codes.

  • Gain knowledge of Data Protection, Information Governance and Patient Confidentiality requirements.

  • Undertake clinical coding tasks specific to each individual practice, when required.

  • Work to weekly deadlines, ensuring all clinically coded data is up to the standards of accuracy, completeness and consistency achieved in training.

  • Work with a variety of different teams and clinicians across practices to streamline the handling of incoming mail.

  • Support the management team with detailed feedback to assist in the development of both your own role and the improvement and evolution of the programme as a whole.

  • Be responsible for the monthly rolling programme of recall of patients and to develop an understanding of our locally commissioned services to assist with the implementation and continued performance of them.

    Required Experience:

  • Highly competent computer skills such as MS Word, Excel, etc.

  • Previous experience within an administration role (desirable, but not essential).

  • Good presentation and writing skills.

  • Strong desire to work within healthcare.
