We are seeking a suitably experienced Buying & Sourcing Manager for a fantastic, brand new opportunity within our clients established business near Downham Market, Norfolk.

 

Our client are an energetic, ambitious and fast-paced company, with plenty of wonderful quirks that make them the dynamic team they are! Established in 2005, our client source, luxury artisan home and garden products from around the globe and market these to retail consumers as well as trade too, boasting some very high profile clients. With two busy sites, plus the addition of a brand new warehousing facility at their headquarters, and realistic yet ambitious growth plans, it is a very exciting yet busy time to join their team in what is a key role within their company.

 

As this is a new role, our client are somewhat open to considering varying levels of buying experience, as well as what shape the role takes on, to an extent. The position itself will involve working closely with the Owner/MD who comes from a Buying background and has been fulfilling this position herself. Being part of a small and very active business which is in a period of substantial growth means the role is highly varied, and will require a can-do hard worker who isnt afraid to roll up their sleeves and get stuck into any challenges asked of them that arise within the company. You will largely be involved in buying, sourcing, product selection, development of packaging, artwork, developing new categories and inventory management.

 

Although a somewhat shape-able and evolving role, the main responsibilities and priorities will centre on:

  • Working with existing suppliers; supporting and managing them as well as negotiating on selected products
  • Sourcing new products and suppliers from overseas and within the UK. Occasionally making trips abroad to view products and meet suppliers
  • Manage importing procedures; learning or managing import documentation and organising shipping
  • Manage all buying administration; purchase order processing, keeping master buying records up to date, managing international invoicing and payments, collating evidence and claims for product damages and managing an efficient and accurate system for monitoring all open purchase orders
  • General supply chain management and documentation
  • Managing QA at both point of production and at warehouse level
  • Planning and maintaining the companys budget requirements; using systems and spreadsheets to calculate and monitor margin, profitability etc. You must have a strong numerical ability and be unafraid of figures; wanting to take accountability for them
  • Work with the MD to develop new product categories and develop these from ground level up
  • Working with marketing team and agencies to develop packaging and labelling solutions for both warehousing,  retail display and movement to end user
  • Working closely with rest of team and specifically MD and General Manager; co-ordinate and organise regular buying and stock control meetings
  • Inventory Management to ensure all deliveries satisfy the assigned purchase orders and manage any back-ordered or missing products
  • Where required, assist with FOH greet customers in a friendly and professional manner and discuss products with them, aiming to secure a sale for the company

 

We require an especially tenacious, super-organised individual who is keen to work in a smaller business, and get involved in the nitty gritty! The right person will be a confident, go-getting and precise about the finer details as well as a brilliant negotiator and a hard worker.

 

Other requirements involve:

  • Previous buying and sourcing experience, ideally within a small to medium business
  • Plenty of initiative and creativity; the ability to work autonomously once in place
  • Supplier management experience
  • Able to travel and be flexible with hours during busy times
  • A desire to take control of the role and to be fully accountable for it. A responsible attitude
  • Ability to work in a busy, sometimes stressful and fast-paced environment with different characters
  • Impeccable attention to detail coupled with strong administrative and IT skills
  • A natural problem solver with a can-do attitude
  • An appreciation of fine, quality products particularly within interiors and gardens.  If you have an eye on trends within gardens and interiors, that would be very useful too.
  • Locality must be within a reasonable commute from Downham Market, or have an existing reason/link to warrant re-location to the area
  • A highly confident communicator; clear and professional
  • A natural ability with figures and numbers; not easily scared or worried by assessing and working with a lot of financial detail
  • Any experience of packaging and artwork development, importing goods and stock control would also be beneficial
