Description: My client is a global bespoke machinery manufacturer based in Norwich. They have a current opportunity for a Buyer to join their Norwich team. The company offer a competitive salary along with an excellent benefits package which includes a profit share scheme. The successful candidate will be working as part of a team within the Purchasing Department, responsible for the day-to-day management of a group of designated supplier accounts. This role includes the evaluation and selection of new suppliers, general purchasing transactions, monitoring of purchase order progress, on-time order delivery, cost control, managing all aspects of supplier quality and the ongoing assessment of supplier risks. Key Duties and Responsibilities will include: Research, interview, evaluate and recommend new suppliers based on their suitability to offer the supply of parts or services that are strategically suited to the current and future needs of the company Obtain oral and written price quotations from suppliers that benefit the requirements of call off, scheduled, one-off purchase or development/prototype needs, as appropriate. Interpret, evaluate and negotiate any contractual terms that may be tendered by a supplier or any that the company may wish to employ to satisfy specific business needs. Verify that product or services offered by a supplier are to the correct specification, will satisfy the required lead-times and offer best value for money. Negotiate with suppliers to obtain a supply profile that best suits the strategic company needs whilst maintaining value for money. Ensure that all suppliers embrace and comply with the company's operational system - typically, compliance with ISO-9001:2015 and the Supplier Quality Manual. Manage the performance of suppliers through day to day communications, ensuring that they continue to provide a high level of service. Communicate to Suppliers their respective performances in the designated key areas and redress any consequential issues that may arise. Continuously monitor and manage all potential supplier risks to include financial stability, product obsolescence, single sourced components, single sourced processes and consigned tooling. Interrogate the company business system to determine purchase demands, applying value judgement as necessary. Raise and manage Purchase Orders generated on the company business system in compliance with the ISO9001:2015 Purchasing Procedures, ensuring that they are accurate and reflect the current MRP/business demands. Apply and enforce the company Defective Material Report system. Make independent decisions on procurement matters within set financial constraints. Demonstrate continuous effort to streamline work processes, reduce lead-times and work cooperatively with other team members towards improving the purchasing operation. The ideal candidate will possess a recognised qualification in purchasing or possess equivalent experience within a similar role working to modern purchasing practices. You will be capable of working within a small team but will also be self-guided and motivated to work autonomously. Supplier visits to UK locations may be necessary occasionally so the successful candidate would need to be comfortable with the occasional long day and / or overnight stay away from home - no more than 2-3 times per quarter. Hours of work would be 8am - 4:30pm Monday - Friday with one early finish (2:30pm) on either a Monday, Wednesday or Friday on a weekly rotation.
