We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Support Worker who has experience of working with young people with challenging, complex and diverse needs, as well as knowledge of autistic spectrum disorders and Asperger's syndrome.

As a Senior Support Worker you will:

  • Be a key member of our team, providing high standards of person-centred care
  • Through a creative and caring approach, you will build good relationships with both young people and their families
  • Provide personal care and participate in activities
  • Help to manage the wellbeing and behaviour of our young people including sensitive pastoral situations, dealing with immediate issues on shift and within own team ensuring outcomes are appropriately followed up and reported
  • Acting as a positive role model, provide effective supervision and guidance for the team contributing to their performance and professional development
  • Support staff to maintain effective professional relationships with young people, parents, colleagues, outside agencies and other professionals referring any issues to senior staff as appropriate
  • Inputs into development of local procedures and supervises staff to ensure all actions comply with policy and procedure and are in line with regulatory, statutory and compliance requirements and meet quality standards.

A clean driving licence with at least 3 years driving experience is essential. It is an expectation of the role that all Support Workers will either work towards or already hold the level 3 Diploma for Children and Young Peoples Workforce.

We are happy to consider flexible shift patterns, including days, early/late shifts, and weekends - this can be discussed in more detail at interview.

The Russet is a children's home in Shepton Mallet for young people aged 16 and over, who access education at Farleigh FE College in Frome.

Farleigh Further Education College Frome is an independent specialist residential college for young people aged 16 to 25 with autistic spectrum disorders, Asperger's syndrome and associated complex needs including behavioural difficulties.

Each of the college's eight residential houses has its own identity, working ethos and dedicated team of staff. This provides learners with the opportunity to experience independent living in a range of different settings.

We aim to provide every young person with an individually tailored programme of education, care, work experience, leisure and life skills and training within the community, to enable them to live as independently as possible.

Our dedicated team of staff create a safe, secure and independent living environment where our young people have a sense of belonging within their group and a sense of ownership of their home. Our approach enables young people to develop the confidence and skills they need to progress towards adulthood, including further or higher education and sustainable independent living in the community.
