We are currently recruiting for an experienced Technical Manager on behalf our client based in Alconbury, Cambridgeshire. The successful candidate will report to the Commercial Director - Insulation and manage the provision of technical support in relation to Insulation products. The Technical Manager must ensure that the business fulfils its technical service offering and support research and development projects to successful conclusion. Post: Full time and permanent Salary: £38,000 - £55,000 Hours: 40 hours per week Probationary period: 6 months Essential requirements: * In-depth knowledge and experience of Insulation products and systems (including the waterproofing / form of construction) * Good practical knowledge of insulation applications. * Excellent communication skills both written and oral. * Good attention to detail. * Confidence to deal with people at all levels. * Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team. * Good report writing skills. * Comprehensive knowledge of Industry standards, legislation and market drivers. * Understanding of our competitors and their offering * Excellent organisation skills. * Good knowledge of IT software, specifically Microsoft packages / technical DWG packages. * Ability to organise workload / site visits and working days in a logical manner. * Flexible in terms of travelling and hours. * Technically competent including the ability to carry out U-value calculations, wind uplift values and condensation risk analysis Key responsibilities: * To manage a small team, ensure expectations, objectives and key performance indicators are communicated clearly to team members. * Hold regular one to one meetings and team meetings. * Complete PDR process as guidelines dictate * To ensure business targets on projects and site visits are achieved. * Ensure system installations are in accordance with our specification requirements. * Assist complaints investigations on material issues and produce detailed reports. * Where necessary, assist Area Business Managers with the execution of site surveys and the preparation of detailed client specifications, designs etc. * Oversee new product development in co-operation with the UK Product Manager. * Ensure that information specified on specifications is technically correct and in line with current correct codes of practice. * Manage the provision of technical services pertaining to insulation * Carry out site surveys/visits * Develop and interpret technical drawings * Provide technical recommendations * Assist in the preparation of specifications * Assist in the development and implementation of training materials * Assist in the upkeep of marketing materials / sales tools from a technical perspective - website, literature etc. with the UK Product Manager. * Assist in the complaints / returns process * Carry out u value calculations including the development of standard build up models/catalogues * Carry out wind uplift calculations and condensation risk analysis * Manage enquiries coming into the business from various sources and ensure they are managed and processed to delight customers * Set up various on line tools to support customers. * Implementing processes to ensure all technical enquires are dealt with in a timely and effective manner, with relevant KPis to measure effectiveness * Ensure all sources of enquiry are effectively and suitably managed - website/phone/internal and external * Ensure consistency of technical recommendations across the business including ready reckoners * Establish standard drawings / build ups * Research and development in conjunction with the Product Manager and commercial team * If necessary, represent the business in relevant industry associations * Understanding of the wider market and feedback to the commercial director and PM team with recommendations including market opportunities and trends * Assist (where possible) in any cost down initiatives both process and product. * Periodic report on the technical function activities and planned activities.
