Laboratory Assistant

Applications are invited for an enthusiastic Laboratory Assistant to join the Crop Transformation Group at the John Innes Centre based in Norwich, UK.

Background:

The John Innes Centre is an independent, international centre of excellence in plant science, genetics and microbiology.

The Crop Transformation Group works on developing and improving transformation technologies in a number of crops including the cereals and Brassicas. We have developed efficient Agrobacterium-based transformation systems for our key crops. Recently the group has demonstrated efficient genome editing in a range of crops.

The role:

The main purpose of this position is to provide support for the transformation / genome editing of key BRACT crops. This will include media and stock solution preparation, maintaining laboratory consumables, plant tissue culture and plant work including harvesting and threshing.

The ideal candidate:

Candidates should possess previous experience of laboratory work and be skilled in caring for plants in a glasshouse environment. Experience in plant tissue culture and media preparation would be advantageous. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.

All candidates should have at least 5 GCSEs grades A*-C, or equivalent. A Levels in scientific subjects would be desirable.

Additional information:

Salary on appointment will be within the range £18,720 to £22,900 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This is a fulltime post for a contract of 8 months.
