Electrical Engineering Services Technician

The NBI Partnership currently has an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Services Technician to join the Facilities department.

The NBI Partnership:
The NBI Partnership (NBIP) provides non-scientific services to the Quadrum Institute (QI), the John Innes Centre (JIC), the Earlham Institute (EI) and the Sainsbury Laboratory (TSL). All these organisations carry out scientific research funded by the UK Government, European Union, Charitable and Industrial Sponsors. The Partnership employs around 140 staff to cater for the needs of approximately 1100 Research Staff, Students and Visiting workers, who are all located in close proximity on the Norwich Research Park.

The Electrical Maintenance Team:
The Electrical Maintenance Team provides planned preventative maintenance and breakdown repair services to support a wide range of mechanical plant and equipment. Continued operation of the electrical installation is pivotal to the continued operation of the Institutes.

The role:
The post-holder will carry out maintenance, defect investigation, rectification and installation of electrical building services in laboratory buildings, glasshouses and support areas. They will work as part of a team and occasionally deputise for the Section Leader during periods of absence. The post-holder will also assist in producing PC-generated reports relating to the Section and supervise specialist contractors on request.

The ideal candidate:

The ideal candidate will have served a recognised apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering (JIB approved), or have equivalent experience and training, preferably with previous experience of working as part of a maintenance team. They will have a good working knowledge of legislative requirements relating to electrical services and good computer skills. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team are also essential.

Additional information:
Salary on appointment will be within the range £24,300 to £27,000 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. Following completion of probationary period, there is the opportunity to earn overtime and an additional on-call allowance. This is a full time post on a permanent basis.
