Document Control Assistant- Barnes Construction, founded in 1978, offers a comprehensive professional construction service.  The Group is very proud of its commitment to its employees and has established itself as a client-focused building contractor, completing a wide range of contracts for blue chip and repeat business clients both in the East of England and throughout the UK.  Here at Barnes we have an exciting opportunity for a Document Control Assistant to join our team based at our Head Office in Ipswich.


You will play a key role within document control for both technical and general administration support for our departments which include design, contracts, pre-contracts and surveying.


Reporting to the Joint Managing Directors PA and working under the supervision of the Document Controller, your key responsibilities include:

  • Inputting data electronically into the OCE machine, including collating and issuing drawings
  • Internal distribution of drawings which may include filing in the appropriate project file
  • Producing information for our construction sites which can include induction information, health & safety site posters and sets of drawings
  • Preparing operations and maintenance manuals 
  • Looking after drawing printers, making sure they are working at all times
  • Answering over-flow phone calls and routing them within the business
  • Laminating, binding and photocopying when needed
  • Assisting the Pre-contacts team on an ad-hoc basis with copying and collating of information, may include drawing, bill of quantities, specifications and quotations
  • Running local errands
  • Reception cover on an ad-hoc basic

Skills and attributes required:

  • Experience within a similar role is essential
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Experience with Microsoft office to include Outlook (intermediate), Word (intermediate),  and Excel (basic)
  • Good communication and organisation skills
  • Positive can do attitude
  • Able to work as part of a team or individually
  • Driving licence is essential

This is a full-time position, 39 hours per week Monday to Friday.  On offer is a competitive salary in line with experience, as well as contributory pension, bonus scheme, life assurance and annual holiday.
