Brexit Business Adviser- Suffolk Chamber of Commerce is the largest independent business forum that lobbies and responds to Government on behalf of our members on all major issues affecting the business community. We have an exciting opportunity for two Brexit Business Advisers to help shape our policy strategy to ensure we remain the leading voice of business in Suffolk. This role is for a fixed term for 2 years subject to the satisfactory delivery of year 1 targets and is funded by the Suffolk Local Authorities.

As Brexit Business Adviser, you will work in partnership with the local authorities across Suffolk; New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP); business support providers; and the private sector; to support business and employment resilience, survival and growth in the build up to and following the UKs exit from the EU (Brexit).

You will work directly with businesses to diagnose barriers to resilience, survival and growth; provide advice and support and help devise appropriate action plans that support business resilience. 

Brexit Business Adviser responsibilities will include:

  • Increasing awareness, understanding and take-up of specialist information and services to support business resilience, survival and growth post Brexit provided for example by national (especially BEIS, DIT and Defra) and local government, the EU, the British Chambers of Commerce, New Anglia LEP and trade bodies and associations
  • Raise awareness of the support on offer from all sources to local businesses to help them grow and thrive
  • Help identify, raise awareness of and advocate for particular support necessary to support business resilience, survival and growth post Brexit, which is not currently available to local businesses
  • As one of two  Brexit business advisors, deliver the service against operational plans and milestones

Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrable experience in a policy/business/public affairs related role and proven policy research and analytical skills, with the ability to analyse, interpret and communicate complex information         
  • A well-rounded understanding of the Brexit context and its potential impacts on business resilience, survival and growth
  • A proven track record of leading and influencing stakeholders and external and internal parties at local, regional or national level        
  • Knowledge and understanding of businesses, local authorities, local enterprise partnerships and stakeholders in Suffolk, regionally and nationally 
  • A proven track record of conducting, monitoring and evaluating projects, programmes and documents and extracting information from data and survey information    
  • Political neutrality, especially with regard to the issue of Brexit, and commitment to work with all partners and businesses irrespective of their individual views and positions
  • Advice skills including the ability to diagnose business issues, solutions and opportunities

As the largest independent private forum in the county, Suffolk Chamber of Commerce is in a perfect position to support and represent local business interests.  We are offering a salary of £30,000 for this fixed term contract role which is funded by the Suffolk Local Authorities. Also on offer is a pension and healthcare package and flexible working opportunities. This role is based in Ipswich but will require some independent travel across Suffolk.
