Full Job Description
Forest has a thriving Music Department with around 35 Visiting Music Staff. Hundreds of individual lessons are taught each week and there is a busy schedule of concerts and recitals featuring choral, wind, brass, orchestral, rock/pop and jazz ensembles. Singing is a huge part of everyday life in the School: there is a structured Chorister Programme in the younger years, an auditioned Chapel Choir with multiple weekly rehearsals and several other choirs. Students have weekly lessons of between 20 and 40 minutes. The Visiting Teacher of Singing will teach one-to-one lessons to our pupils across the age range of the School. They will be able to teach stimulating and challenging lessons that bring out the best in pupils at any stage of their musical development. This includes beginner level to the most advanced students who wish to pursue musical studies upon leaving Forest. They will be confident in teaching a variety of styles with a high level of technical focus, including opera/art song and musical theatre. They will often prepare their students to take performance exams with an appropriate awarding body and support them in their ensemble participation. There are currently around two days of teaching - approximate 20 pupils - available for a suitably qualified and inspirational teacher. Visiting Music Teachers at Forest are responsible for communicating their timetables to students the week prior to each lesson, and for taking accurate registers of attendance.
The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service. We are an equal opportunities employer.
