Full Job Description

We are working closely with St.Helens to assist with the appointment of a Vehicle Engineer, on a 3-months contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration., The Vehicle Engineer is responsible for the inspection, servicing, maintenance, repair, and testing of the Council's fleet vehicles, plant machinery, and specialist equipment. The role requires a multi-skilled engineer with expertise in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and diagnostic systems to ensure all vehicles and equipment remain safe, roadworthy, and compliant with statutory regulations, DVSA requirements, and Operator Licence obligations. Responsibilities:

  • Conduct routine safety inspections, servicing, maintenance, and repairs on fleet vehicles, plant machinery, and specialist equipment.
  • Ensure all inspections and maintenance activities comply with Operator Licence requirements, statutory regulations, and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Use electronic fleet management systems to record maintenance activities and monitor vehicle performance.
  • Undertake MOT testing and Private Hire/Hackney Carriage inspections where appropriately qualified (Band H level).
  • Keep up to date with emerging vehicle technologies, industry standards, and legislative requirements.

    Recognised Level 3 qualification in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, Heavy Vehicle Maintenance, Plant Maintenance, or equivalent technical discipline., Experience servicing, maintaining, and repairing commercial vehicles, fleet vehicles, plant machinery, or specialist equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical vehicle systems.
  • Understanding of Operator Licence requirements, DVSA regulations, and vehicle safety standards.
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation and safe workshop practices.
