Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Uro-oncology nursing team for a support worker, this important role supports patients after their diagnosis of cancer and throughout their cancer treatment. The successful candidate will be part of a multi-professional team who support patients with diagnosis of prostate, testicular, bladder, kidney and penile cancer. The main objective would be to support the Clinical nurse specialists (CNS) identify and assess holistic needs of patients, helping them access support at the right time of their pathway with the most appropriate person. This role aims to provide collaborative person centred holistic care to support patients across both surgery and oncology pathways, at diagnosis, during treatment and the end of active treatment or decision for best supportive care as well as when a person's situation indicates a need. Any cancer diagnosis can be life changing and have an enormous effect on a person's wellbeing and their loved ones. This requires a special understanding of the patients experience and personal situation, to be able to empathise and provide compassionate care effectively. This role will need someone with excellent communication and organisational skills as this is an autonomous role however support and direction would be facilitated by the CNS team. This presents an exciting developmental opportunity to enhance existing experience in holistic needs of the patient.

  • You will support patients with diagnosis with Urology Cancer.
  • You work with the Uro-oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist Team to support patients at key points in the patients pathway, around time of diagnosis, during treatment, prior to surgery, at the end active treatment or decision for best supportive care, as well as when a person's situation indications the need.
  • You will maintain accurate and timely data on cancer register.
