A critical part of the work we do is the daily upkeep of the rail network. As a technician you'll work outdoors in a team, supporting essential maintenance to keep the railway running safely and smoothly for passengers and freight users.

About the role (External)
The Distribution and Plant team consists of individuals with electrical and mechanical skills and expertise. Much of the equipment we are responsible for is operationally critical to the Railway and running of trains.
You will be based out of our Doncaster maintenance depot but will be working on equipment on the East Coast Main Line local to Doncaster as well as the Sheffield, North Lincolnshire, Hitchin and Peterborough areas. There will be a requirement to travel (in company time) and stay over when necessary. Company vehicle will be provided for business travel.
You'll work independently and as part of a team to maintain the standard of the electrical & mechanical equipment. You will be responsible for the inspecting and testing a diverse range of electrical and mechanical equipment. The electrical equipment includes LV distribution systems, standby generator supplies, UPS systems, track points heating, building LV installations, outdoor equipment such as level crossing lighting, walkway lighting, and air conditioning systems - to name a few. The mechanical equipment includes fixed and loose lifting equipment.
We are looking for an apprenticeship served skilled electrical tradesperson with appropriate City and Guilds (or equivalent) qualifications as a minimum.
Our team work outside in all conditions, at all times of the year, day or night on and off track. Being safety focused, respectful of rules and a team player will be critical., · Hold an NVQ level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject or have attained the appropriate level of knowledge gained through equivalent relevant experience
· Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by business need
· Experience of organising and controlling the safe and efficient delivery of work
· Excellent communication skills, both in person and in writing
· Knowledge of relevant standards, procedures and instructions
· A clear and inspirational leader with a strong sense of direction
Desirable Criteria
· Have or willing to learn City & Guilds 2391-52 Level 3 Award in Initial and Periodic Inspection and Testing of Electrical Installation'
· Have or be willing to learn In Service Inspection & Management of Lifting Equipment Accessories'
· Understanding and experience of railway infrastructure maintenance

· Technical skills You'll have knowledge and experience of inspection, faulting, maintenance and renewal techniques .

· Problem solver You'll be persistent in finding safe and effective solutions to issues you find out in your working environment.

· Relevant qualification You will have successfully completed an appropriate apprenticeship in an electrical/mechanical field. Typically, successful applicants are qualified electricians, but this does not preclude a mechanical tradesperson with aptitude for and/or additional training in electrical engineering.

· Shifts Team Leader roles involve a changing shift pattern including days, nights and weekends.
· Outdoor working - Our Team Leaders work outside in all weathers and so you'll be comfortable working in different conditions.
· Safe working - Offers of employment are subject to drug and alcohol testing and passing of the relevant medical assessment and BPSS pre-employment checks. This will include a hearing and eyesight examination.
· Driving You will need a driving licence (category B) so you can drive Network Rail vehicles.
· Commute times - You'll also need to be within a 60-minute commute of the location that you're applying for.
This role involves days, nights and weekend working, and is a safety critical role so subject to drug and alcohol testing and passing of the relevant medical assessment., Safe behaviour is a requirement of working for Network Rail.
