Full Job Description
The Henrietta Barnett School is seeking to appoint a highly qualified and enthusiastic Teacher of Science as a maternity cover position for the academic year 2026-7. The successful applicant will have the qualifications, skills and passion to teach one of the three science disciplines all the way from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5 and will also have the experience, willingness and/or qualifications to teach Chemistry to the end of Key Stage 4. The successful applicant should also enjoy working as part of a team. Science is extremely popular at The Henrietta Barnett School and we are proud of facilitating so many young women into higher education and careers in STEM. A majority of students take three STEM A-levels and A
- /A rates in the subjects are very high. Many students every year go onto top universities, including Oxford and Cambridge, to study related courses, including Medicine., To provide high quality teaching, learning and assessment in sciences, effecting excellent outcomes for students and maintaining excellent relationships with students, in particular:
- To inspire curiosity, interest and enthusiasm in pupils in the study of subjects being delivered;
- To facilitate and promote excellent outcomes for whole classes of students, key groups and individuals;
- To assess, record and report on the attendance, development, progress and attainment of pupils;
- To plan/prepare lessons and contribute to the development of appropriate materials and schemes of work and examinations;
- To maintain specialist expertise, taking advantage of CPD;
- To promote the general progress and well-being of individual pupils and of any class or group;
- To communicate and consult with parents;
- To communicate and consult as required with outside agencies who have legitimate business with the school and to attend associated meetings as relevant;
- To fulfil a pastoral role according to the agreed guidelines;
- To carry out supervisory duties as required;
- To maintain high standards of timekeeping;
- To set and assess homework according to the policy of the School and the Department;
- To participate in the School's programme of monitoring and self-review;
- To encourage and promote the confidence of students at all times;
- To prepare the students for public examinations;
- To provide guidance and advice to pupils on educational and social matters and on their further education and careers, including information about sources of more expert advice;
- To support the ethos of the School and to carry out its aims and policies and perform professional duties, as a class teacher and, where appropriate, as a tutor according to the requirements of the current statutory regulations; school policies and school systems;

The Henrietta Barnett School is a fully selective girls' grammar school, situated in the beautiful surroundings of Hampstead Garden Suburb.
