Full Job Description

We are looking for a part-time Support Worker to join our welcoming team at Whitstable Road, our residential short breaks service for adults with learning disabilities. Whitstable Road offers short stays for up to four people, giving both them and their caregivers a much-needed break. Every stay is different, and you'll have the opportunity to meet and support a wide range of people-making this a truly rewarding role. To be successful, you will need a positive and caring attitude, strong communication skills, and the ability to work flexibly as part of a team. This vacancy is for 25 hours per week, typically involving an afternoon shift, a sleep-in, followed by a morning shift. You will receive a full induction, comprehensive training, and regular supervision. We also offer ongoing opportunities to develop your skills and gain further qualifications through our learning and development programmes. As a Support Worker at Whitstable Road, you will make a real difference to the people who stay with us. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting people to enjoy their break and engage in meaningful activities
  • Helping individuals achieve their personal goals
  • Providing support with personal care, medication and health needs
  • Maintaining a safe, comfortable and person-centred environment
  • Working collaboratively with families, carers, and external professionals

A Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care (or equivalent), or willingness to achieve this within two years
  • Completion of the Care Certificate if not already held
  • Experience supporting adults with learning disabilities and/or autism
  • Knowledge of safeguarding responsibilities
  • Ability to take personal and professional responsibility for your practice
  • This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service. This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.

Work that works for you and us - let's talk flexibility! KCC is committed to building a workforce which reflects the diversity of the county's working residents, encouraging applications from people of all ages, abilities, genders, sexual orientations, ethnic backgrounds, faiths and those with caring responsibilities, and aspires to create an inclusive workplace where everyone can be themselves at work. Please note - if you are interested, please apply soon as possible as the closing date for this advert may be earlier than stated should a number of suitably qualified candidates apply.

  • Sleep-in allowance of £40.76 per night - adding just one sleep-in per week could increase your salary by around £2,000 per year
  • Enhanced pay for Bank Holidays, Kent Rewards (Childcare Vouchers, Cycle2Work scheme, high-street discounts)
  • 10% discount on Adult Education courses
  • 29 days annual leave (pro-rata) plus Bank Holidays
  • Eligibility to apply for the Blue Light Card for further savings
