Full Job Description

We are excited to be recruiting new 1x part time counsellor reporting to the pilot Counsellor Manager. The Student Counselling Service sits within the Education and Student Success division and is part of a large system of support services. The hours are 9:00-17:00, and every counsellor must work 1 evening from 12:00-20:00. We are ideally looking for candidates able to work Monday 12:00-20:00 or Tuesday 12:00-20:00.

What will you be doing?

Primarily using a One at a Time (OAAT), you would be supporting students with a broad range of presenting issues, at a low level of complexity and risk. All counsellors will contribute to therapeutic groups and will be supported to do so. Counselling is offered in person, at the University Campus. We do not offer home working for counsellors, due to student preference and need.

Counsellors are provided with group supervision, individual supervision and CPD training, all funded within the role.

Our Counsellors use a range of therapeutic modalities within our OAAT model. We encourage you to familiarise yourself with the OAAT model/single session therapy, considering how this fits with your counselling practice and preferred ways of working. Counsellors unable to work with this model are unsuitable for this appointment. A summary of our approach can be found here, http://www.bristol.ac.uk/students/support/wellbeing/request-support/services/counselling/one-to-one/ .

Please see the attached Job Description and person specification for full information.

You should apply if

We are looking for suitably experienced counsellors (please see the job spec) who are registered, but not necessarily accredited, but will work towards their accreditation with our support.

In line with the wider University strategy, we are committed to fostering equality, diversity and inclusion, and anti-racism. We particularly encourage applications from candidates from, or those who have significant experience of working with, black, Asian and minority ethnic communities. Although a diverse service, we are under-represented in these areas. All appointments will still be made on merit.

The Student Counselling Service is working hard to create a welcoming, exciting and joyful place to work, meeting the demographic of the student population and offering more diverse and inclusive therapeutic support. As a team we are genuinely passionate about equality, diversity and inclusion; it forms a key thread through all the work we do. We want everyone that joins to be a part of this and to contribute to the friendly and fun community we are creating.
