Full Job Description

An opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified Specialist Respiratory Physiologist to join the Respiratory Physiology team at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust. The post holder will support the delivery of respiratory diagnostic testing and will be required to work across both Cannock Chase Hospital and New Cross Hospital., A supportive working environment is promoted, with a commitment to flexible working arrangements. Applications are welcomed from individuals seeking flexible working patterns, and requests will be considered in line with service requirements.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work both autonomously and under pressure. They will be able to prioritise their own workload effectively while contributing to team working and supporting the development of junior staff. Evidence of continuing professional development is essential, alongside experience across a broad range of respiratory diagnostic investigations.

Applicants should hold a BSc or MSc, or equivalent qualification, and have completed ARTP professional examinations or demonstrate significant equivalent experience within a respiratory physiology department. Registration, or active progression towards registration, with the HCPC or the RCCP/AHCS voluntary register is expected. Part-time applicants will be considered., We are looking to recruit an individual with an understanding of specialist healthcare science activities acquired through training to BSc and/or MSc level, or with an equivalent level of knowledge and experience. Applications are also encouraged from suitably qualified Band 5 Physiologists seeking progression to a senior Band 6 role or wishing to develop experience at this level.

The post holder will have the opportunity to work within the oxygen assessment, sleep/ventilation, and cardiopulmonary exercise testing services.

All members of the Respiratory Physiology team are involved across all aspects of the diagnostic service. The successful candidate will therefore be competent in both routine and advanced respiratory investigations and able to interpret and report findings, including providing verbal interpretation where required. You will maintain an up-to-date training record and actively contribute to your continuing professional development portfolio.

Previous experience in research and audit is desirable, as is experience of presenting work at national and/or international meetings. The role will include mentoring and supervision of less experienced physiologists, healthcare assistants, and administrative staff. Strong involvement in the training of junior healthcare professionals and competency assessment is also desirable.
