Full Job Description

Software Engineer

Education Applications is looking for someone to join our quality focused team whose mission is to build frictionless education services. You will work closely with academics and students to design and develop software which enhances the learning experience. Grow your professional skills using C#, JavaScript, continuous integration and automated deployment and get experience and training with industry standard tools such as Blackboard, Panopto and QuestionMark OnDemand. We have a supportive team where training is provided so take this opportunity to develop your career in our professional and flexible working environment.

Our team is open, friendly and would value your creativity in our search for a brilliant user experience for our students and academics.

About the Department

iSolutions provides all aspects of ICT support for University activities. Whether custom tools for teaching, off-the-shelf research applications, desktop builds, networking and infrastructure we do the lot.

Currently, the Education Applications team works remotely. However, under normal circumstances the department is largely based at our new, spacious corporate accommodation in Guildhall Square, located in Southampton's recently redeveloped Cultural Quarter. With excellent links via rail and road, we are in a prime city location, with convenient access to high street shops, bars, and cafés, as well as arts and entertainment venues.

About the University

At the University of Southampton we are committed to our strategic principles of collegiality, quality, sustainability and global reputation - which our new leadership team is using to implement meaningful change. We value equality and diversity and are a founding signatory of the Athena SWAN Charter. We have held an Athena SWAN Silver Award since 2016, demonstrating our commitment to addressing equality issues in order to maximise the potential of all our people.

Work-life balance is important to us and this is reflected in our generous maternity policy and childcare facilities; employees are also able to participate in the Childcare Voucher Scheme. Our staff may wish to have working patterns that fit in with their caring responsibilities, so we invite requests to undertake this role on a part-time or a flexible working basis. We also welcome applicants who have had career breaks for reasons including maternity, paternity or adoption leave, disability, or illness.

As part of our commitment to your well-being we offer an occupational pension scheme and generous holidays. Staff also have access to our state-of-the-art on-campus sports, arts, and culture facilities, a full programme of events, and access to a number of University employee-discount schemes.
