Full Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for someone who is highly motivated and enthusiastic and who is interested in developing their career in Sleep and Ventilation. This is an exciting role within our dynamic and well-respected Sleep and Ventilation service that will provide the successful candidate with a wonderful opportunity to develop skills with further training in the management of patients with sleep related respiratory conditions by carrying out diagnostic tests and initiating respiratory support treatment. Based at the Royal Brompton Hospital in Chelsea, you will play an active role in this busy and prestigious department, working between both the Medical and Surgical wards and will be given relevant training in setting up patients on sleep studies. After a period of relevant training and supervision you will be involved with initiating patients onto CPAP therapy and will participate in the follow-up and ongoing review of these patients via face to face and virtual platforms., To be able to, with training, perform and analyse respiratory sleep studies including home sleep apnoea tests (NOX), transcutaneous CO2 monitoring, oximetry, respiratory polygraphy and actigraphy, as well as virtual set up of sleep study equipment when required. Further training in Polysomnography, MSLT and MWT tests can be provided following completion of respiratory based diagnostic test competencies.

After a period of training, to be able to independently set up and carry out any calibration, testing and system checks necessary in relation to diagnostic and therapeutic equipment in adherence to relevant departmental standard operating procedures (SOP).

To be able to, with training, participate in the sleep CPAP to include virtual telemonitoring services and face to face appointments for initiation, troubleshooting and follow up appointments including a drop-in clinic, with appropriate reporting of the appointment (such as compliance reports, mask fitting and humidification). This will be across a variety of CPAP brands, models and modes. Further training on NIV and participation in NIV clinics can be provided following completion of CPAP competencies.

To be able to, with training, perform and interpret blood gas (capillary) results, spirometry and SNIP tests as part of the NIV clinics with the consultants.

The successful candidate will be required to work closely with all the consultants, nurses, physiotherapists and other clinical physiologists in the department including members of the multi-disciplinary team. It is essential that you are self-motivated and have good communication skills.
