Waking Night Carer, Marlow, Bucks. SL7. A full-time opportunity available for an engaging, proactive and experienced Waking Night Carer to support a happy and sweet little boy with complex care and medical needs: Up to £20.50 Gross per Hour, Days & Hours: 3 x 12-hour shifts per week. 7.30pm 7.30am. Rota provided 4 weeks in advance, position include working some weekends

About this client/child: Ethan, 8 years old, is an adorably sweet and happy little boy living with his Mummy and Daddy in Marlow. Having recently just moved into their new fully adapted home, Ethan loves having lots of space, including a therapy and sensory room, and a cool new bedroom! He enjoys a wide range of activities, including sensory stories and play, massage, watching cartoons, and going for a walk outside. Ethan has Cerebral Palsy and associated complex health care needs, including epilepsy, visual and hearing impairment, a PEG in situ for all fluid, nutrition and medication, he requires deep suctioning and has a VEST system. Ethan and his parents are currently exploring Eye Gaze technology to aid his communication. Due to his significant medical needs, Ethan is totally reliant on others, on a 2:1 basis, 24/7 to meet all his health, care and medical needs. He is a wheelchair user and has ceiling track hoists installed to support with all transitions, moving and handling.
His dedicated care team is led by a Nurse Team Leader, and full, comprehensive and ongoing person bespoke training is provided by healthcare professionals to ensure you have the skills to support Ethan.

Overview of role: The Waking Night Carer arrives at 7.30pm and starts by reading through the epilepsy / seizure management protocol, although Ethan s seizures are rare, his team must refresh their knowledge every shift. Prior to completing a full handover with the day team, all emergency medication and oxygen is prepared, then support Ethan with his night-time and bedtime routine. Two waking night carers are always on shift, and throughout the night you will take turns monitoring Ethan, his SATS, Vitals, Temp, etc. Ethan always requires 1 waking night carer by his bedside, when the 2nd night carer is required, they will be alerted via a video monitor. Throughout the night Ethan will require personal care, repositioning, suctioning and soothing back off to sleep. There are other duties to complete such as preparing feeds, fluids, and medication, washing and sterilizing equipment etc. Ethan s vitals etc. are to be recorded throughout the night. A comprehensive handover is
completed with the morning staff. Additional day and night hours available to cover holidays, sickness etc.

Essential: Experienced Waking Night Carer with paediatric/childcare experience. Non-smoker/vaper
Desirable: PEG care/management, oral or deep suctioning, epilepsy/seizure management, oxygen management, SATS, Who this job would suit: Ethan requires a reliable, competent and proactive Waking Night Carer. You do not need to come to this role with previous experience supporting a young person with similar complex medical care needs, as full training is provided. Most important is that you are keen to learn new skills and are passionate about providing the highest standard of care and support.
