Full Job Description
An exciting opportunity has become available for a full time (37.5hours/week) Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse within the Acute Oncology Service, based on the Cancer Assessment Unit (CAU). This role would suit those wishing to further develop their clinical assessment skills, and lead in the care of acutely unwell patients with cancer.
This is an exciting time to join the team and Directorate; the continued transformation of services means that more and more patients with cancer are being treated at home. The Unit triages patients over the phones that are known to the Cancer Directorate. Patients are brought in for assessment and treatment of symptoms/side effects as required; patients are usually undergoing a range of treatments for cancer including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiotherapy, post-stem cell transplantation/CAR-T or receiving best supportive care.
When the CAU is closed the Acute Oncology Service peripatetic role supports the Cancer directorate and the Emergency Department, this includes weekends. You would be expected to work a range of shifts to cover this service including long days and weekends., To assist the ward manager in the overall running of the unit and assisting with the implementation of changes and support for the wider team. This will include, rota writing, QSIS investigation, appraisals etc.
To carry the 902 bleep for division and to hold the fire bleep as appropriate.
To co-ordinate and effectively communicate with the wider multidisciplinary team to provide high quality, safe, kind and excellent care for our patients.
You must be a motivated nurse who will complement the highly skilled and motivated team in providing high quality care to patients. You must be adaptable, able to thrive under pressure, a great team player, be able to empathise and to remain professional and positive during challenging situations., Oncology/Haematology experience is preferable though acute or critical care experience will be considered.
