We are looking for an experienced and collaborative leader who can combine operational excellence with strong people leadership, relationship building, and a commitment to continuous improvement. This permanent, full-time position is based at our Beddington Lane depot in Croydon, Greater London but due to the nature of the contract, various meetings could be held at a number of locations.
The duties of the Service Director - Transport for London will include:
+ Directing and overseeing operations within the TfL HMPF Business Unit, ensuring delivery aligns with company plans, strategic objectives, and agreed budgets
+ Playing an active role in the development and implementation of company strategy, working closely with the Managing Director and Board to support long-term business objectives
+ Developing and managing Business Unit plans, operational strategies, and financial budgets to support performance, efficiency, and service delivery
+ Delivering HMPF core works and contractual obligations, including emergency, reactive, and cyclical maintenance activities across the network
+ Managing and supporting direct reports and wider operational and non-operational teams, promoting collaboration, professional development, wellbeing, talent progression, and succession planning
+ Building and maintaining strong client relationships, supporting the achievement of client objectives through high-quality reporting, insight, and performance information
+ Managing the commercial performance of the contract, ensuring revenues, margins, and financial outcomes are delivered in line with tender submissions and company policy
+ Championing high standards of health, safety, environmental compliance, and sustainable working practices across all operational activities
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Service Director with a proven track record of leading large-scale term maintenance contracts within complex transport infrastructure environments. The successful candidate will demonstrate extensive knowledge of highways maintenance alongside a strong understanding of NEC contracts, commercial management, and operational delivery.
You will bring significant experience operating within safety-critical and highly regulated environments, together with the ability to lead, inspire, and develop multi-disciplinary engineering, highway maintenance, and operational teams. Strong stakeholder engagement skills are essential, with experience working collaboratively across local authorities, contractors, and senior leadership teams.
We are looking for someone with a positive and inclusive leadership style who can build trusted relationships, encourage collaboration, and create an environment where people feel supported to perform at their best. A strong understanding of health, safety, environmental, and compliance standards within infrastructure maintenance operations is essential, alongside a commitment to continuous improvement, innovation, and delivering high-quality outcomes for customers and communities.
