Full Job Description
We currently have an exciting vacancy within our Council Tax team to enable us to continue to build on our success. The role is as the first line manager of a fast-paced team, providing day-to-day management of the team and ensuring all targets are met.
You will supervise, prioritise and distribute work to the team as well as checking the quality of their work. This will include having regular supervisory meetings with members of the team to give feedback on performance as well as providing training where appropriate.
You will also need to be able to review decisions/appeals dealing with complex cases and making discretionary decisions and offer legislative guidance. This will involve preparing Valuation Tribunal bundles and court preparation.
The role will also include answering complaints and responding to Data Protection enquiries as well as acting in a supportive role for the Team Leader and deputising in their absence.
You must have at least 2 years previous experience of working in a Council Tax environment and be willing and able to manage a large team of staff.
You will be IRRV qualified (Full/Tech/Apprenticeship) or have a willingness to obtain this qualification within 12 months. You will have an up-to-date specialist knowledge and proven experience of dealing with complex cases, including making discretionary decisions, and experience of delivering a difficult outcome to residents in a professional, sensitive but assertive manner.
You will deliver a professional service to our customers and will adhere to the Council s policies and procedures. You will take ownership of certain tasks and will work to deliver on targets set whilst maintaining a high quality of work. You will also be required to take responsibility for decisions you make and offer advice to the team where needed.
The role is extremely fast-paced and as such you will need to be organised and able to deal with heavy workloads and work under pressure to ensure all tasks are covered whilst supporting and managing the Council Tax team. Excellent communication skills with both staff and customers are a key part of this role.
