Job Overview

  • We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join our team delivering complex mechanical installations across plantrooms, energy centres, and large-scale decarbonisation projects. The role involves estimating works that include heat pumps, chillers, gas boilers, distribution pipework, thermal stores, and associated mechanical plant for public and private-sector clients.
  • Main Duties
  • Prepare detailed mechanical estimates for plantrooms, energy centres, and decarbonisation schemes, including heat pump systems, chiller installations, and boiler plant upgrades.
  • Interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documents to produce accurate take-offs and cost breakdowns.
  • Develop tender packages, including labour, materials, subcontractor elements, preliminaries, and risk allowances.
  • Engage with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations and validate technical compliance.
  • Assess project risks, constraints, and opportunities, providing clear commercial recommendations.
  • Work closely with design, project management, and commercial teams to ensure alignment between estimate, scope, and delivery strategy.
  • Support value engineering exercises, identifying cost-effective alternatives without compromising performance or compliance.
  • Prepare tender clarifications, technical submissions, and bid documentation for client review.
  • Attend site visits and tender meetings to understand project conditions and client expectations
  • Maintain an up-to-date cost database for mechanical plant, materials, and labour relevant to energy-efficient and low-carbon technologies.
  • What we are looking for
  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Estimator within building services, M&E contracting, or energy-infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical plant, including:
  • Ability to read and interpret MEP drawings, schematics, and specifications.
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of tendering processes.
  • Proficient with estimating software, Excel, and digital take-off tools.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence engaging with suppliers, consultants, and clients.
  • Knowledge of low-carbon technologies, energy-efficiency measures, and decarbonisation strategies is highly desirable.
  • HNC/HND or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline (preferred).
  • Relevant industry experience within M&E contracting or energy-infrastructure environments.
