Senior Fellow in Neuro-Ophthalmology

Applications are invited for the post of Senior Fellow in Neuro-Ophthalmology for 12 months at the University Hospital Birmingham NHS Trust. This post is to support the Neuro Ophthalmology service.

The Ophthalmology Department at University Hospital Birmingham is based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. It provides ophthalmology outpatient facilities and day case ambulatory local anaesthetic surgery.

There are 15 consultants who provide an outpatient and surgical service. The entire range of Ophthalmology sub speciality clinics are provided and there is close communication with consultants in other specialities. As well as consultant ophthalmologists the eye service is supported by staff and associate specialist doctors, Specialty Registrars an Orthoptic Department, Optometrists and technicians. Pre-operative assessments and biometries are done on site as well as fundus fluorescein angiography, indocyanine green angiography, optical coherence tomography, corneal topography, Heidelberg retinal tomography, ocular ultrasound and an award winning wet macular degeneration service., The aim of this post is to significantly increase the trainee's ability to diagnose and manage the full range of Neuro-ophthalmic problems including disorders of the afferent and efferent pathways. The desired end result is that the trainee will be competent to manage a neuro-ophthalmology service as a sub-specialist. There will be particular attention to developing the trainee's knowledge of neuroradiology including regular interaction with the imaging department. There will be specific training in the management of acute neuro-ophthalmology including liaison with the inpatient neurology service
