Full Job Description
The posts will commence from April 2026 for 6 months, with a possibility to extend to 12 months. Candidates should have completed their surgical training and have their CCT or equivalent, or be within approximately 6-12 months of obtaining for the CCT or equivalent. This post will have a focus on pelvic floor conditions, as well as colorectal cancer and their management., Successful applicants will work with the admitting general surgical on-call teams, providing support both in the A&E Department, where appropriate, and on the wards. A full on-call commitment of one in eight night-time shifts with prospective cover resident on call will be required for the Upper Gastrointestinal and colorectal posts. In line with our commitment to improving the working lives of our junior doctors, the duties and the hours of the new posts will be fully compliant with the New Deal initiative.
St Thomas' has seven colorectal surgeons providing tertiary level care in a variety of benign and colorectal cancer conditions. The St Thomas' Colorectal Unit performs a number of multivisceral resections for advanced and recurrent colorectal cancer in conjunction with the plastics and urological teams. The Pelvic floor unit is a tertiary referral unit for the South East of England and with regular MDMs held with the urologists and gynaecologists. The colorectal unit also has particular interests in inflammatory bowel disease surgery with about 80 resections performed each year. There are facilities for open, laparoscopic and robotic operations.
