Full Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Deputy Unit Nursing Manager to join our dynamic Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) Day Case Unit. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled nurse leader to support the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centred care to individuals undergoing cancer treatment. Working closely with the Unit Manager, you will play a key role in the day-to-day operational management of the unit, providing clinical leadership, staff supervision, and ensuring adherence to national standards and local protocols. You will be responsible for coordinating patient flow, supporting workforce planning, and fostering a positive learning environment that promotes professional development and high-quality care. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in SACT nursing, including administration of SACT, alongside strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills. You will be passionate about improving patient outcomes and experience, with
the ability to lead by example and drive service improvements.
The post-holder will support with line management to the Band 6, 5 and 3 Registered Nursing staff and healthcare support workers. The post holder will be an effective leader and role model and will be expected to provide regular direct clinical care and use experience to support the implementation of both clinical and non-clinical governance, Deliver operational nursing leadership and act as a professional lead, taking corrective action when necessary to uphold Trust and professional standards.
- Maintain a highly visible and accessible presence in clinical areas, supporting staff and ensuring excellent standards of care.
- Provide direct support to the day case units and treatment helpline and leadership across a range of shifts in the absence of the unit manager, this includes working in Velindre, Prince Charles and Nevill Hall.
- Display leadership skills which will enable you to initiate and implement change.
- Attend relevant operational meetings, communicate with MDT colleagues and actively contribute to the safe flow and management of patients in the department.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
