Full Job Description

Applications are invited for a full-time research assistant position, upto 12 months (possible extension of 18 months) duration starting as soon as possible.
The post is part of the project that aims to develop digital twin frameworks within the Wind Energy sector with novel AI predictive maintenance algorithms for fault-tolerant, intelligent estimation of Remaining Useful Life of wind turbine components. The role will encompass activities related to wind farm operations and maintenance, including life cycle data analysis, impact assessment, and integration with renewable energy systems. The position will encompass modelling of Wind Turbine components, conducting Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analysis of Wind Farms, and developing AI-driven predictive control strategies for optimizing wind farm performance and reliability. Additionally, the role includes documenting findings in formal reports and contributing to the development of high-quality journal and conference papers and other necessary outputs. The research will be carried out with collaborators from several industrial and academic institutions within the wind energy sector.
A budget for travel expenses will be provided.

This is a Research Fellow position, so the successful candidate must have a strong background in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and should hold a minimum MEng degree.
You need to have good programming and experimental skills. The candidates should be motivated and enthusiastic to work in a team environment and should have experience in communicating findings in journal papers.

The appointee will join the Software Defined EV and AV Laboratory at the School of Engineering at the University of Surrey, which has research interests in a wide range of topics, including active vehicle dynamics, electric powertrains for electric and hybrid electric vehicles, autonomous vehicles, infrastructure, batteries, renewable energy as well as costing and sustainability.
