We're looking for Refuse Drivers (Class 2 LGV) to join our Waterbeach-based team. This is a local driving role where you'll work with a small crew, benefit from family-friendly hours, finish early, and return home every day, with no nights and no long-haul work. Unlike some LGV roles, much of our fleet is designed for local residential routes, and drivers will often operate more compact refuse vehicles that are easier to handle in urban areas-ideal if you're looking to step away from larger, more demanding trucks. With resident satisfaction rates of over 90%, you'll be joining a service that takes real pride in what it delivers. As part of South Cambridgeshire District Council, colleagues also benefit from our four-day week approach. We expect employees to deliver 100% of their work in around 85% of their contracted hours, while receiving 100% of their pay. This supports a better work-life balance, alongside the same salary and reduced working hours. All Council staff can opt into this way of working under our Productivity Policy. We have adopted this model to help attract and retain talented colleagues, improve services, reduce reliance on agency workers, and support overall health and wellbeing. We offer a career grade average pension scheme (LGPS), you would contribute 5.8% progressing to 6.5% and the council will contribute 18.6% into your pension. Why join us?
  • Family-friendly hours with early finish every day - typical shift 6:00am to 2:30pm
  • The opportunity to opt into our four-day week
  • Stable, secure council role with long-term prospects
  • All PPE and uniform provided
  • Supportive team environment with experienced crews
  • What you'll be doing
  • Driving LGV (Category C) refuse collection vehicles on local routes
  • Operating vehicles well-suited to residential collections and tighter streets
  • Leading and working alongside a small crew
  • Delivering a safe, efficient, and reliable service
  • Representing the service professionally within the community
