Full Job Description

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic candidate to the role of Quality and Safety Midwife. The main purpose of the post is to: Give advice on risk management issues related to service provision within the Maternity and Gynaecology services.Be responsible for coordinating risk management and support the Associate Director of Midwifery & Clinical Governance leads in overseeing risk management throughout the maternity services.Work closely with the Associate Director of Midwifery and Consultant leads to provide a systematic Risk Management Strategy, which aims to improve patient safety and reduce adverse outcomes, within the Clinical Governance Agenda. Please see document attached for detailed job description and main responsibilities., This is a senior midwifery post working closely with Trust leads, Associate Director of Midwifery, Consultant Lead for risk, Professional Midwifery Advocate, Research and Practice Development Midwife. The post holder will work within the Risk Management Framework and has responsibility for leading on all aspects of risk management within maternity and gynaecology.

  • Registered Midwife
  • Extensive evidence of clinical or professional development.
  • Mentorship 998/997 or equivalent.
  • Midwifery degree or working towards Masters.
  • Experience with datix risk management system.
  • RCA trained
  • Some experience of leadership.
  • Human factors.
  • Experience of quality improvement.
  • Experience Essential
  • Ability to demonstrate the required expertise associated with a senior midwife role.
  • Including Advanced clinical skills: I.V annulations, phlebotomy& drug admin, CTG interpretation, Resuscitation of mothers and babies.
  • Ability to assess maternal and fetal wellbeing and implement the appropriate management
  • Knowledge of statutory requirements following fetal loss i.e. NHS resolution, each babies counts.
  • Understanding of current NHS issues and initiatives
  • Excellent written, verbal, and non- verbal communication skills.
  • Skills and aptitudes Essential
  • Demonstrable clinical experience in all areas of Midwifery.
  • Experience in similar clinical governance role.
  • Significant experience at Band 6 level or Band 7 level experience.
  • Excellent understanding of clinical governance and risk management, mitigation and ensuring that lessons are learnt.
  • Good understanding of regulatory requirements from the Care Quality Commission, and others.
  • Good understanding of NHS Resolution.
  • Good understanding of each baby counts /HSIB.
  • Good understanding of the management of serious incidents in relation to process, transparency, and candor.
  • Experience of presenting information within a group setting using PowerPoint or report formal
  • Leading or participating in meetings.
  • Management/ implementation of practice change
  • Participation in service development.
  • Experience of resource management
  • Good understanding of national patient safety strategy
  • Experience using datix reporting system
  • Experience using Medway/ maternity Medway information system.
  • Professional and able to address poor practice and conduct, Kind
  • Compassionate
  • Good time management
