Full Job Description

This post provides a structured balance of supervised and independent clinical practice, supporting the transition to consultant-level responsibility within trauma and orthopaedics. The fellow will be an integral member of the trauma team, actively involved in:

  • Daily trauma meetings and decision-making
  • Operating theatre lists, including complex trauma cases
  • Fracture clinics and specialist trauma follow-up clinics
  • Ward rounds and multidisciplinary team worki

The Trust has a long and well-established reputation for innovation, high-volume trauma care and excellence in orthopaedic training.
  • This fellowship is a 12-month fixed term post, primarily based at The Royal London Hospital, one of the busiest Major Trauma Centres in Europe, with opportunities to gain experience across the wider Barts Health network, including Whipps Cross Hospital and St Bartholomew's Hospital where appropriate. The fellowship offers comprehensive exposure to complex orthopaedic extremity trauma, including upper and lower limb trauma, peri-articular fractures, polytrauma management and reconstruction. Fellows will gain experience in both acute trauma management and definitive surgical fixation, with increasing autonomy tailored to their stage of training. Informal discussions are encouraged. The Trust has a strong academic profile, and fellows are encouraged to engage in research activity, clinical trials and service development projects. Completion of at least one audit or quality improvement project and contribution towards peer-reviewed publication is expected during the fellowship.
