PCN Pharmacy Technician

The PCN Pharmacy Technician will work under the supervision of a Clinical Pharmacist and as an integrated part of the primary care team to ensure the safe, accurate and timely supply of prescribed medication to patients. The role will contribute to successful clinical management of patients and is shared across the PCN., The key responsibility of a PCN Pharmacy Technician is to ensure there is a centralised, safe and effective medicines optimisation process across PCN practices including:

1. Repeat prescribing and repeat dispensing processes:

a. Implement PCN repeat prescription process: repeat interval for LTC and CD, read code for AMBER 3 and enter hospital only drug

b. Agree process for appliance requests e.g. stoma, continence, dressings and ACBS products

c. Electronic repeat dispensing (eRD) champion: support staff training and work with community pharmacy

2. Patient safety:

a. Run searches and action MHRA CAS alerts

b. Support patient queries related to medicines

c. Refer complex medicines queries to pharmacist/nurse/GP

3. Quality improvement projects and clinical audits:

a. Identify patients suitable for virtual clinics to support QIPP implementation

b. Identify patients who have not been issued anticoagulant/lithium/steroid/antiplatelet cards and ensure read code into the notes

4. Health Innovation Network (HIN) Project e.g. BP@home, lipid management

a. Identify patients and risk stratify using UCLP search templates on EMIS

Greenwich PCN Alliance is formed of 4 PCNs across Greenwich, Blackheath and Charlton PCN, Eltham PCN, Heritage PCN and Unity PCN. A successful candidate will be allocated to one PCN and will work across that PCN only. At Greenwich PCN Alliance we are committed to the development of ARRS roles
