This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Occupational Therapist to join our service at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford. Experience of working in orthopaedics is essential as you will mange and and be responsible for a complex clinical caseload providing specialist care to a wide variety of orthopaedic patients. You will provide significant leadership, supervision and service development responsibilities within the team. This is an opportunity to be part of a dedicated, innovative and well established team. We are looking for a highly motivated, dynamic and forwarding thinking occupational therapist. We have a world-class reputation for teaching and research and within the wider Therapies department, you will benefit from access to a large team of specialist musculoskeletal therapists and clinical specialists., · A Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist, to support the Service Manager to provide leadership to the service and provide professional and clinical support to all services and team members (Orthopaedic Inpatients, Pre-operative Assessment Clinic, Patient Education Sessions, Outreach Service, Rheumatology and Prosthetics team). · To assist and deputise for the Service Manager with the management of the Occupational Therapy service. · This post holder will be an autonomous practitioner, taking a lead in co-ordinating and providing a highly specialist occupational therapy service to patients within the service. · To take responsibility for the management of a designated caseload within the service. · To be responsible for the development, co-ordination, delivery and monitoring of the Occupational Therapy service in collaboration with the Occupational Therapy Service Manager. · To provide clinical expert advice, education and teaching to other therapists as a Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist. · To demonstrate advanced knowledge, skills and clinical reasoning when assessing and treating patients with orthopaedic conditions. Providing highly specialised assessment, treatment and advice to patients and their carers within the Occupational Therapy Service. · To ensure a high standard of Occupational Therapy care, promoting and representing the profession., 1. To manage and prioritise a highly specialist clinical caseload, undertaking assessment treatment of out-patients and in-patients, involving clinical reasoning, autonomous, complex decision making and co-ordinating safe and effective discharges from hospital. 2. To actively lead in the development and evaluation of the Occupational Therapy Service, including the development of new models of service delivery and care. 3. To provide highly specialist knowledge, assessment and treatment for complex orthopaedic and multi-pathological condition patients. 4. To train patients with impaired functional ability to perform daily living tasks, with or without the use of aids, support and facilitate patients to use good self management techniques. 5. To assess the home environment of patients if required to recommend adaptations, alterations and/or the need for equipment/support and liaise with appropriate services to meet these needs. 6. To provide professional highly specialised clinical advice, recommendations and training to professionals as required. 7. To assist with and provide cover as required for all areas of the Occupational Therapy Service. 8. To maintain a high standard of clinical and professional practice at all times, through continuing professional development. 9. To assist the Occupational Therapy Service Manager in the day-to-day supervision, education and support of Band 5 and 6 Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Apprentices, Occupational Therapy students and work experiences, including delegation of routine tasks. 10. To record all occupational therapy intervention in compliance with Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH), Royal College of Occupational Therapists and NHS guidelines. 11. To continuously evaluate occupational therapy intervention, and to maintain and develop a highly specialist standard of clinical and professional practice at all times. 12. To participate in the Weekend/Bank holiday working rota as required. 13. Deputise in the absence of the Occupational Therapy Service Manager. 14. To represent the Occupational Therapy Service at team meetings and case conferences. 15. Able to examine and evaluate own clinical performance, initiate changes in work practice and integrate new specialist knowledge into practice. 16. To be able to use and teach concepts, theories, principles of Occupational Therapy, to identify and manage high standards of care and outcomes for patients. 17. Able to identify a range of strategies to address the problem and make an informed choice of strategy based on a sound understanding of the client's needs and goals. 18. To be able to justify rationale for provision/non-provision of adaptive equipment, demonstrating its use and care to patients, staff and carers, including complex equipment such as hoists and specialist wheelchairs. 19. To be able to address patients and carers needs, often during distressing and emotional circumstances in a sensitive, empathetic and competent way. 20. To provide support for junior therapy staff in the team and contribute to their learning, by promoting use of joint sessions and provision of individual guidance, as required. 21. To be aware of all the Community Services (both statutory and voluntary) available to ensure a timely and quality discharge. 22. Ensure that out-of-county patients are provided with the necessary follow-up therapy care and support as required. Build links with the regional centres to facilitate timely discharges. 23. To be aware of and adhere to national targets and Trust targets regarding length of stay. 24. To promote the role of Occupational Therapists through integrated working and to explain the role of therapy staff to new patients and carers. 25. To be competent in working in a high pressure area, providing rapid response to referrals whilst ensuring safe discharge for patients.

  • BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy or equivalent
  • Masters level clinical courses / or equivalent
  • Extensive clinical post graduation experience in relevant speciality
  • Operational management, development and supervision of junior staff, students and therapy assistants
  • Experience of audits, service evaluations and quality improvements.
