Full Job Description
As part of the local authorities response, the Mental Health Support Improving Attendance Team - MIAT Manager will work alongside the MHST Management Team, and be responsible in managing the MIAT Specialist. The MIAT & MHST managers and Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting schools within Nottingham City by providing intensive support, training, and coaching aimed at improving attendance and reducing persistent and severe absence rates. This role involves assisting school leaders in developing and maintaining a positive attendance culture, identifying early signs of attendance issues, and supporting and challenging pupils and their parents to unlock their academic and social potential. The manager will oversee (alongside MHST Managers) bespoke interventions developed by the specialist and MHST/MIAT team to address environmental barriers affecting attendance, incorporating low-intensity CBT-informed approaches for mental health concerns. Additionally, the manager will collaborate with school attendance teams, leaders, and officers to enhance attendance levels, maintain effective communication with stakeholders, and ensure compliance with statutory and Trust frameworks through a solution-focused approach. The role also requires ensuring the team are proactive in early intervention, engagement with families, and flexibility to travel across various schools and education providers as needed. The post holder will promote high standards of practice in safeguarding, management of mental health risk, and effective therapeutic interventions through a robust performance management framework within a multi-disciplinary team. The post-holder will work innovatively and support the embedding of a whole school approach to mental health within the educational settings that the MHST are based in.
- Extensive experience of working in a Senior Leadership Team (preferably within educational establishments)
- Skills in leading, team guidance, inclusivity, relationship building, cultural competence and diversity in management
- Planning, executing a project/service and managing resources
- Collaboration internal and externally. Understanding school systems, creating inclusive support
- Knowledge of Safeguarding policies and practice. Policies related to attendance, inclusion and special educational needs
