Full Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Oxford Vaccine Group in the Department of Paediatrics as our Medical Statistician.
You will play an important role in applying cutting-edge methodologies to the design and analysis of vaccine clinical trials with a focus on controlled human infection studies.
You will be responsible for all the statistical activities in your assigned projects, including supporting new research proposals, developing relevant sections of study protocols, leading statistical analyses and reports, creating statistical analysis plans, and drafting the relevant sections of manuscripts.
You will be working in a growing department within the Medical Sciences Division. The Department of Paediatrics is a world leader in child health research and hosts internationally renowned research programmes in drug development, gastroenterology, haematology, HIV, immunology, neuroimaging, neuromuscular diseases and vaccinology.
Specifically, you will join the Oxford Vaccine Group Quantitative Research team comprising more than 15 researchers with expertise in statistics, epidemiology, and bioinformatics. The quantitative research team is dedicated to advancing global health through innovative quantitative methods. We work at the forefront of clinical trials and observational studies, collaborating with leading national and international organisations to shape vaccine strategies and public health policies. Our team played a pivotal role in the design and analysis of the landmark ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 (AZD1222) trial, contributing to its World Health Organization Emergency Use Listing (EUL) and emergency authorisations worldwide. If you are passionate about conducting high-impact research that drives meaningful change, we encourage you to apply.
This position is offered full-time on a fixed-term contract initially for 2 years with the possibility to extend provided further external funding is available. Part-time applications may be considered (with a minimum of 22.5 weekly hours).

It is desirable that you have a PhD in a relevant discipline, such as Statistics, Epidemiology, Mathematics or other relevant discipline. However, if you have relevant experience but no PhD, you are encouraged to apply also. The department offers DPhil opportunities to staff as part of their role, with an 80% reduction in fees.
You will have highly effective verbal and written communication skills with all levels of staff and an ability to operate effectively in a demanding and collaborative research environment.
